Laidback Luke & Friends @ Governors Island [EVENT REVIEW]

06/16/2012 - The ferry arrived at Governors Island with just enough time to get settled in for Tommy Trash's set. Arriving the weekend before for Benny Benassi & Friends show around 4:00pm I realized you hit the longest line from that time until 6:00pm. If you arrive after 6:00pm the ferry and line to get into the venue are a breeze. So check your set times and make champion decision and execute them. Tommy Trash took to his podium promptly bearing a yellow "Super You & Me" cape and played a heroic set that took flight. Tommy Trash dropped anvils on his audience and even had enough skill to head bang a bit and pop bottles while he did it. Multi-tasking at it's finest if you ask me. Tommy Trash has his own genre when it comes to his unique sound, almost like if a chain-saw and a musical instrument met and had a hybrid offspring. A sound easily identified and instantly classified as some sort of music creation from Tommy Trash. He played an evenly distributed set; some of of his stuff and some other material ranging from Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, and Nicky Romero, and a ton of remixes. This guy really knows how to party he even showed up at Pacha NYC later on that night to join Liv & Mim Nervo & Norman Doray on stage while they did their thing; another jaw dropping performance.

As darkness fell on Governors Island Datsik posted up on the decks emulating The Green Hornet. He grasped hold of the crowd buzzing fresh off a Tommy Trash performance and yearning for a dose of decibels. The order of performances worked out very well but it could have worked out even better if Tommy Trash & Datsik switched slots. Creating a more fluid transition from set to set. Datsik dropped extreme hardcore dustup bombs and gave the crowd what they were asking for. Datsik saluted numerous artists including himself with his selection spinning songs such as Gold Dust, The License, Hold On, All I Do Is Win, and much more.

This was my first time seeing Laidback Luke perform ever and at last, the finale was here. Super You & Me head honcho Laidback Luke graced his disciples with the best performance of all night. Obviously, it's his party and he has been doing it since before most of y'all were born… what did you expect? He played an amazing sensory overload set consisting of one banger after the next. Rocking his red, white, blue, and teflon custom fan made super hero costume built for agility so LBL could still bust out his robotic dance moves all night. I was backstage when one of my favorite songs "How We Do" (Laidback Luke's Dirty Remix) by Rita Ora came on and had to snag a video. I actually ran into Luke's new fiance Gina Turner backstage and snapped a picture of her costume as well. Check it out in the Facebook photo album. He played a well picked assortment of tracks but an amazing amount of  Laidback Luke classic creations including Turbulence, We Are the Stars, Better Off Alone, Leave the World Behind, and Speak Up.

Norman Doray & Nervo @ Pacha NYC [EVENT REVIEW]

06/16/2012 - I arrived at Pacha NYC as some of the most beautiful talent in EDM took control of the booth. The Nervo Twins give off amazingly happy vibes with their perky personalities and flawless smiles but don't let that fool you… The Nervo Twins really know how to get down to business. Liv and Mim have accomplished some real cool stuff the ordinary fan wouldn't know like they began their career as songwriters with Sony/ATV Music Publishing writing songs for Kelly Rowland, Kesha, and the Pussycat Dolls and last year they toured with Brittany Spears. With pop connections like that and teaming up with Afrojack, Avicii, Dimitri Vegas  & Like Mike on other projects, these gals are versatile enough to do it up REAL big. The girls played a highly amusing set including tracks from Sandro Silva, Marco V, and Tiesto along with productions of their own.

After Nervo turned the crowd topsy turvy it was now Norman Doray's turn. He grabbed hold of the decks in the early hours of Friday morning and got it cooking like clockwork. Tommy Trash & PeaceTreaty made an appearance after their performance with Laidback Luke at his Super You & Me Governors Island party. Bringing the crowd right into full rage mode. This was the first stop of Norman Doray's USA Tour and really show cased how radical the rest of his stops will be. Norman has been a round for a good period of time playing beside Swedish House Mafia at Pacha Ibiza almost every monday and played a big support role on Steve Angello's "Size Matters" tour. It's cool to see a guys like this working really hard headlining big venues. He played a wide variety of music including some of his own brand spanking new material.
