Exclusive Interview: DHG

DHG hails from Los Angeles and is an electronic duo between Edaan and David. I came across their stockpile of flawless mashups while searching Soundcloud and was instantly hooked. Their sound is consistent and always has a fresh idea integrated into every creation. I would like to thank DHG for taking the time out of their schedule to answer these questions for us.

RD: Lets start off with some basic info, who are you guys? How old are you? Where are you from? What motivated you to start DJing? And when did you start DJing?

DHG:  Edaan, 27, born & raised in Los Angeles has been djing since as long as he can remember. Whether it was friends parties, weddings, or even nightclubs Edaan was always bringing the noise! Music has always been a huge part of his life and he decided to take it to the next level when he got a degree in the Audio Technology Program at SAE Institute. David, 23, born in Israel & raised in Los Angeles, also had a huge musical impact on his life ever since he was a boy. Playing instruments like the piano, trumpet, and even messing with some musical software, David knew that music was always going to be a BIG part of his life so David decided to take the Electronic Music Production course last spring at the same school Edaan attended 4 years prior. After always making cd's for friends & hearing the great feedback we decided to take it to the next level & show our music to the rest of the world!

RD: DHG, an abbreviation for Da House Gods, what was the inspiration behind this name?

DHG: The idea of   DHG, didn't start as DaHousegods. It actually came from on of our best friends 3 year old niece's, Daniella Haya Gannot, which at the time we started djing was fighting neuroblastoma cancer. All of our friends loved the idea of   DHG & eventually the name stuck with us. Dahousegods is the first thing that came to mind when trying to find something with the same letters

RD: What brought you two together to form this duo?

DHG: Living in Los Angeles & going out & seeing different dj's do their thing was what drove us to make this duo. We would always talk & say how much we want to do it but never took it to the next step. It was the trip that we made together to Miami WMC 2010 that made us put our foot down and get   DHG movin! We're all about the BIG ROOM, arena music & wanna bring this style to every radio, ipod, & venue in the world! This music just makes everybody Feel GOOD!!!

RD: I know you guys focus on mashups, any productions in the process?

DHG: Yes, we are working on productions as well. We want to make a big mark in the EDM world with our mashups right now and then release our first single. Expect something Summer 2012

RD: What other genres of music are you guys interested in?

DHG: We're interested in everything from pop, hiphop, oldies to even foreign music. We love to hear different sounds from all over the world & try and incorporate those sounds into our music.

RD: How much of your daily routine is devoted to your music?

DHG: We eat, drink, sleep, & bleed music. On that note, since we are a duo we sometimes have conflicting schedules. We sit on average about 3-5 days a week, countless hours at a time working on new stuff.

RD: You guys have been spinning at a lot of venues lately, where is your favorite spot to play?

DHG: For us every venue is different in its own nature, but we have fun everywhere we go. Its physically impossible to play this music, no matter what venue, and not have your adrenaline rushing like you're djing in front of 100,000 people. The music is always rushing through our bones, so to us it doesnt matter whether we're playing in front of 10 people or 10,000 people. If we had to choose a venue it would be Eden nightclub in Hollywood by SBE, because of the feeling we get when we go back there everytime. Eden gave us the opportunity to spin in Hollywood for our first time as  DHG & we will always remember where we started. We have become a sort of family with all the promoters & staff there so its always great going back and seeing all of them!

RD: If you could spin anywhere in the world, where would it be?

DHG: The moon! Can't wait for a 2 hour set on the moon when the first space station opens up! haha just kidding, can you imagine? Our dream would be to spin Sensation White Amsterdam. Everything from the sound, the production, the fans all dressed in white, to the atmosphere is just ridiculous! It speaks for itself, its any dj's dream.

RD: When you are performing at a venue do you bring your equipment or use the equipment at the venue? Is it easy to adapt? Any piece of equipment you are thinking about purchasing in the near future?

DHG: 99.9% of the time we use the equipment at the venues. We have a couple cdj 2000's at home & we organize all of our music with Pioneer Rekordbox so it is very easy for us to adapt when the venue has the cdjs as well.

RD: When can we expect another DHG Mashup? Any track names we should look out for?

DHG: We're releasing our new   DHG mixtape in the next couple of weeks with plenty of new mashups that we haven't even put up yet! Its our holiday gift to all of our fans!

RD: Who are some of your musical influences?

DHG: Our biggest musical influences are Tiesto, Hardwell, Avicii, Dada Life, Swedish House Mafia, Jay-Z, Infected Mushroom, Shpongle just to name a few. We love how all of these artists have branded themselves.

RD: What gigs do you guys have booked for December?

DHG: We will be back at Eden on Saturday the 17th for our mixtape release party & will be at the Colony Hollywood on Saturday the 24th.

RD: What are your plans for 2012?

DHG: Big BIG plans for 2012. Since according to the Maayans it is the end of the world & all. We're going more MASSIVE than ever. In all seriousness though, we are working on our own original work, a   DHG foundation in memory of Daniella Haya Gannot, which 10% of all our shows will go towards Cancer Research in Children & also lots and lots of shows!

RD: What are some goals you would like to achieve during your career? How do you plan on accomplishing these goals?

DHG: One of our goals is for the world to know who   DHG is. We want to bring our sounds & rock every venue around the world! People will remember a   DHG party as the most epic party they've ever been to. Our main goal would be to eventually be ranked in Dj Mags top 100 dj's of the year.. With our drive, we know we'll make it there.

RD: Three words to describe your mashups?

DHG: OH MY GOD!

Slam The Door (Preview)

Zedd just released his preview to "Slam The Door" via his Soundcloud. This track is set to be released on January 03, 2011 by OWSLA. The track is very similar to another track by Zedd called "Shave It" which is another favorite of mine along with all the remixes but doesn't jeopardize its individuality and on top of all of that the track artwork is cool as fuck.

What Did I Do (Release)

Sander van Doorn just released his new single "What Did I Do" with Kele feating Lucy Taylor. The beat is mad melodic and the vocals are super soothing. Check it!

This is the third of The Weeknd's mixtapes and it is truly off the fucking hook. I linked the Hulkshare from his website for the free download, and if you don't download it, you are foolish to the furthest extent.

Keep It Coming (Release)

You know it is a banger when it has early support by David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Sander Van Doorn, Amo & Navas, Robbie Rivera, Judge Jules, DJ Slider. The track was just released Monday on beatport and is following close behind their first collaboration "Pressure". Nadia Ali has the hottest voice in EDM right now and is only getting better.
